Current College Alumni Return with Advice for High Schoolers
Shanghai American School students and faculty were not the only ones returning to campus the second week of January, alumni Eagles from across the world visited campus to check in with favorite teachers and catch up with old friends. Eighteen of them participated in a beloved tradition, the annual Alumni College Panel, where recent graduates return to share stories about their college experience and give current students advice on how to approach the college application and selection process.
Panelists spoke to packed auditoriums with all SAS high schoolers in attendance. The heartwarming event is an important touchstone in SAS’s college counselling program, providing current students a look ahead into their futures and a platform to seek guidance from those who have recently completed the process. Freshman and Sophomores received great advice on high school course selection. While Juniors and Seniors reaped practical advice on what to do – and what not to do – as they navigate the gauntlet of college admissions.
The group spoke on a wide range of topics, from humorous quips about cafeteria food in university (spoiler alert: they have a newfound appreciation for the food at SAS) to profound insights on how to personalize the SAS experience, and appreciation for how well SAS prepared them for university. As expected, they didn’t hold back, sharing stories of personal struggles and lessons learned in the spirit of helping their fellow Eagles. It was a reminder of the strong bonds that exist between Eagles of all classes!
Watch the video below to hear what a few of them had to share in their own words.
A special thank you to all our Alumni College Panel Participants:
