Building a compelling CV is a crucial step toward future success. Today, it is not an uncommon requirement for students to submit a CV for selection to competitive summer programs, some university applications, or scholarships! Our high school students got an inside look at the process from Bó Lè Associates, an executive search firm specializing in recruitment. Through SAS’s Career Immersion Program, students gained invaluable insights into CV writing and the recruitment process.

Led by Linda Li, the Managing Director of Bó Lè, the workshops guided students through the key components of an effective CV. Through real-world examples, students learned what recruiters prioritize and the common pitfalls that can lead to rejection.

Understanding that high school students may have limited work experience, Ms. Li emphasized ways to highlight transferable skills through extracurricular activities, volunteer work, and projects. Students also received insider tips on professional networking, including how platforms like LinkedIn can play a crucial role in career development, as well as broader career strategies.

The session included an interactive Q&A, where students had the opportunity to ask questions and critique several CV examples, discussing how they would improve upon them. The workshop didn’t end here though; students were invited to submit their personal CV to Bó Lè for a professional review and actionable next steps.

Reflecting on the experience, students found the workshops both eye-opening and practical. “The workshop was full of useful information, especially because we were shown exactly what recruiters look for in a CV and the red flags that can lead to instant rejection,” shared junior Sofia Y. “This insight was really helpful, and I will be implementing what I learned to improve my CV.”

As our students prepare for university and beyond, workshops like these help equip them with the tools and confidence to navigate the competitive job market.
